After a busy summer we slide into September under the renewed news of pending tariffs and several elections both local and abroad that could change the political landscape.  The October elections in the JdF EA are also on the horizon.  OPSRRA will be holding an All Candidates Meeting for the nominees for Director of the JdF EA and for School Trustees.  The meeting will take place on Sunday, September 20th, from 2pm to 4pm at the Otter Point location of the Juan de Fuca Local Area Services building at #3 7450 Butler Road, Otter Point, in the Sooke Business Park.  The nomination period has not yet ended for either the Director or the School Trustees.  For the position of JdF Director and for School Trustees the nomination period ends on September 11.  Details on the CRD website at:  www.crd.ca/vote  When that does happen in September we will let the community know who they can expect to be at the All Candidates Meeting.

Membership in OPSRRA –We had one new resident and a new business join and several businesses renew their memberships. Do check out the OPSRRA Business Directory which lists the businesses, websites and other information. Let’s support our local businesses and keep our economic support local and circular.

Activity on the OPSRRA website and Facebook – 7, 174 views in the last 28 days on facebook which was 56% higher than the previous 28 days.

We would like to give a shout out to a couple who have been long time members and best of friends to OPSRRA. They regularly show up early to help set up the room for meetings, help with the tidying up at the end and even took on maintenance of their local OPSRRA neighbourhood bulletin board, among other very helpful activities. Not for glory or any recognition but just because they are wonderful people who realize all of us are OPSRRA, not just the Board.  So thank you so much, you two. We also appreciate the people who are doing their “Adopt a Board” near their mailboxes by taking down outdated or weathered posters and sometimes bringing their clippers and keeping the greenery tamed. Check out the boards- they all had a touch up or more and the greenery pruned back this summer.

Any thoughts on another OPSRRA water survey? The last one was several years ago so we are due for another one. If anyone would like to volunteer to help with this daunting task, please let us know with an email to info@opsrra.com or to president@opsrra.com .

Talking about water, the JdF CRD  managed to get provincial funding for another Rainwater Harvesting Rebate project that enables seven eligible JdF people to  qualify for up to $1000 in rebates for a new rainwater harvesting tank.  It may be the last time this offer is available due to provincial funding cutbacks. Applications must be received by Sept. 15 to be included in the draw. See  www.606water.ca for  details and the application to download.
