We hope all of you had a happy July 1st Canada Day. OPSRRA is looking forward to the Town Hall Meeting with MLA Dana Lajeunesse and JdF Director Al Wickheim on Saturday July 11th, from 1pm to 3pm at the JdF area services building #3 – 7450 Butler Road in Otter Point.
We asked for topics of discussion and questions for the Town Hall and many came in through Facebook and email. The topics cover issues from the local level to the provincial level. They include areas such as industrial dumping, residential fire protection, biosolids, forestry, transit taxes, crown land, transportation, and the provincial climate action program. As you can see, we might not have answers for these topics but our Director and our MLA will hear from the community as to what our thoughts are on these issues. Everyone is welcome to attend the Town Hall
OPSRRA attended the first Otter Point Community Association’s Friday Market – 4 to 7pm – at Poirier Lake (William Simmons Park) on June 26th. The Market will run every Friday for the rest of the summer. Park at the lake lot or at the parking lot by the JdF Hall on Butler Road and follow the signs to the pavilion area. The market is drawing local residents to come and support the OPCA and their plans for building a Community Center at Elrose Park on Highway 14. Come and see their drawings.
On June 24th, three members of the OPSRRA Board took part in a StreamKeepers course at Charter’s River in Sooke. The course was put together by the Peninsula StreamKeepers, District of Sooke, 606 Water Group and the Hatchery. Three modules were taught – general survey of streams, identification of life within the waters, and testing of water quality. If you are interested in creating or joining a new local stream keepers group please contact 606watergroup@gmail.com to get more information.
