The OPSRRA Board held a retreat meeting May 30th to discuss the coming year and sort through our projects and priorities. Some of the items we discussed included the summer bulletin board maintenance schedule. Several boards will be spruced up and painted and a couple will need replacing. We talked about updating the website and using Mailchimp email more frequently to quickly sent out messages to members. We talked about road safety, traffic and highway cams, and following the process of updating Local Area Plans (LAPs). Each area in the JdF will develop and use LAPs to support a new single Official Community Plan (OCP). This process will take time but it is very important for all of us to take a close look at where we want to be in five or ten years time in terms of community development and growth.

Much time was spent looking at plans for upcoming meetings. Normally OPSRRA tries to have a community meeting every three months. The meetings alternate between Shirley Community Hall and the Capital Region District JdF Local Area Services Building Hall. Topics put forward included: A Town Hall with our MLA, another Open House/Trade Show, Mid-year AGM (usually in November), Food Security, Road Safety and Development, Fire Safety and Wildfires, Water Scarcity and Drought. We then brainstormed all the potential guests we could think of to ask. That process is now ongoing and we hope to have a meeting in July at the JdF Local Area Services Building.

One project that we did approve at the retreat was a small box to hold information and pamphlets. The idea being that certain information could be given out to the public in area such as emergency evacuation information, Fire Smart, well and septic information, Septic Savvy flyers. The free flyers would change throughout the year and would provide additional and more in depth information directly to the community. We have built six boxes as a trial run and you may find one attached to your community bulletin board post. If you do, check out the information and take a copy home if you wish.
