The Annual General Meeting of OPSRRA was held at the Shirley Community Hall on April 12, 2026. We had a very good turn out from our membership for the meeting.  In addition to the usual reports we were pleased to welcome two newly elected members to the OPSRRA Board.

First of all I would like to acknowledge the members of the current board – President – Chris Moss; Treasurer  – Christine Winsby;   Membership Director – Lynn Moss; Secretary – Stephanie Croft;  Communications Director – Kira Decyk and Director at Large  – Ladan Kalani

I also wish to mention the great assistance we have had from Cheryl Wirch-Ryckman who has been acting as our back-up technical support for the website.

Joining us as a Director at Large is Leslie Ramsey. Leslie is a former manager for the JdF emergency services. She moved to Otter Point in 2009 and recently retired after 14 years with CRD’s Juan de Fuca Emergency Program as Emergency Support Services Director.  Previous background includes business development work in the federal government, international development, and business consulting, as well as a variety of volunteer projects.

Joining us a Vice President is Ladan Kalani. Ladan is a community member living in Shirley and she is committed to preserving the rural character, safety, and long-term sustainability of Shirley, Otter Point, and Jordan River. She has lived on Vancouver Island since 2016 and in Shirley since 2026, and cares deeply about protecting what makes Shirley unique while supporting community-driven development.  Professionally, Ladan is a research communicator and the founder of Knowledge in Practice (knowinpractice.com), a communication initiative focused on making complex academic work accessible and actionable. She brings strong organizational and collaborative skills with a commitment to listening to the community and advocating for balanced, transparent decision-making.

During the AGM the idea of a “slow down” Traffic sign was addressed for Shirley.  OPSRRA has contacted the MoTT and we are pleased to say that they will be counting the number and speed of traffic this summer.  If the numbers warrant it they will consider a permanent sign of some kind to warn drivers to slow down as they pass the Community Hall.

If you have community event that you would like to put onto the OPSRRA calendar or newsletter/Directors Report, please let us know – president@opsrra.ca
