Town Hall – Feb 2025

On February 23rd, forty residents from Shirley, Otter Point, and Jordan River gathered to discuss Future Development. The meeting, led by OPSRRA president Chris Moss, covered the governance of the Juan de Fuca Electoral Area and emphasized preserving its rural character amid development pressures. Various topics included housing, water infrastructure, environmental considerations, and community needs.

The Rain Gauge

The article discusses the impact of climate change on rainfall patterns in southern Vancouver Island, leading to drier summers and insufficient water supply for local watersheds and aquifers. Short, intense rainfall cannot replenish water sources effectively, resulting in water scarcity and potential ecological damage. Sustainable water management practices are essential for future resilience.

DEVELOPMENT?!?   In my area?

In Otter Point, Shirley, and Jordan River, residents have divergent opinions on future development, with discussions ranging from no development to various housing types and infrastructure needs. OPSRRA seeks community input, emphasizing the importance of decisions amid the pressure for 1,200 new homes in the next decade. A general meeting is scheduled for February 23 to discuss these topics.
