We’re getting out and about this Spring. First inviting our members to talk with our new MP Stephanie McLean at a special MP Town Hall February 15th, followed by the OPSRRA AGM on April 12 featuring our MLA Dana Lajeunesse.

With all of these meetings during the rainy season, it is a good thing that OPSRRA has new coroplast signs for its big road signs (thanks to a JdF grant) and they should last us a goodly amount of time.

This activity has resulted in a number of new members, both personal and business joining in January. Just a reminder if you’re one of the many to have been contacted to renew their membership, please get back to us. OPSRRA membership remains incredibly cost effective at $10 for a 5-year personal membership and $10 for a 1-year business membership with a listing or link on the OPSRRA online business directory, online business map and permission to use the OPSRRA neighbourhood bulletin boards for the duration of their business membership.

While putting up the signs for our Town Hall we noticed that the boards are being kept clean by local users, thank you!  We also noticed that on a signpost in Shirley on Tieulie Place, someone has kindly attached a supporting brace for the sign to keep it from leaning.  Thank you so much! The Shirley signs all have very heavy roofs which make them prone to leaning.  We will take that idea this summer and do the same for posts we cannot stabilize.

As mentioned above, coming up this Spring the OPSRRA AGM with guest MLA Dana Lajeunesse will happen on April 12 in the Shirley Community Hall. We will have elections for the Board at that time.  If you are interested in helping our volunteer board, or running for a board position, please let us know so that we can invite you a regular Board meeting to meet with you. Email info@opsrra.ca or president@opsrra.ca  with your interest.

We are thinking about a summer meeting which would be a “Road Safety Panel”.  Let us know your thoughts on this topic and suggest other topics of interest to the Community.

606 Water group is hosting a CRD presentation on Septic Savvy in the JdF Services building on March 8 from 1 to 4 pm. It is free, refreshments provided and everyone is welcome. Somehow the CRD presenters make the sessions interesting and fun. More information and how to register later…

We also have the local 606 Water Group working with Sooke asking for volunteers to start a Stream Keepers group. They need at least ten more people for the course to run. All adults and older youth welcome. Their website is www.606water.ca  and the  RSVP emails are 606watergroup@gmail.com or info@sooke.ca

The JdF/CRD and 606 Water Group rainwater tank rebate program for 2025 was successful with five $1000 rebate recipients finished or almost there, well under the due date. We hope that people will ask the JdF/CRD to renew the program for 2026.

If you have community event that you would like to put onto the OPSRRA calendar or newsletter/Directors Report, please let us know – president@opsrra.ca
