OPSRRA had a small but enthusiastic crowd in Shirley for our Annual General Meeting on April 27 th . It could be that another election the next day might have affected our numbers! The meeting featured talks by Mr. Sid Jorna on the parks and trails of the JdF EA. It was an excellent presentation touching on all the areas in our region and the plans for extending the existing park and trail systems. Then our Director Al Wickheim gave his report on the status of various projects within the JdF for the next year. We learned that Highway 14 will be seeing some major paving going on all summer to upgrade the quality of the route.

A new slate of Directors for OPSRRA was elected consisting of Chris Moss (President), Stephanie Croft (Secretary), Christine Winsby (Director at large), Lynn Moss (Membership and temporary Treasurer) and Kira Decyk (Communications) with a nod to a former President Cheryl Wyrch-Ryckman as “ex officio” to the Board.
Vacant positions included the Vice President, Treasurer and a Director. We appealed to the
membership for volunteers to “adopt a bulletin board” in their area and to those interested in joining the OPSRRA Board for the next year as a Director. Both invitations are always open – just send a request to info@opsrra.ca for response and further information. Two people immediately volunteered to adopt a board so there are only 36 left to adopt. The work consists of simply taking down old notices and taking pruners once a month or so to the mail to clip off enthusiastic sprigs.

In the past year OPSRRA has increased its number of community meetings. We had two meetings about Bio-solids, Elections BC Meeting, MLA All Candidates Meeting, MP All Candidates Meeting, and our AGM Meeting. Interest in our meetings and the topics discussed increased over the year and new topics for discussions are welcomed.

The new OPSRRA Board will hold their retreat in late May to determine the projects and meetings for the coming year. OPSRRA has a request from the Sooke Region Museum for a presentation to our members and the public in the near future. If you have ideas or input you wish to forward just write to info@opsrra.ca with your suggestions.
