It has been a busy fall as election signs line the roads and candidates begin their work to be our next MLA in our new riding.

On September 29th, OPSRRA continued its proud tradition of hosting a candidates meeting. Present were the three MLA candidates,  Dana LaJuenese (New Democratic) , David Evans (Green) and Dr Marina Sapoznikov (Conservative).  We had a full house of participants with standing room only and a total of 74 people attended. Interestingly of those who signed in we had Otter Point (48%), Shirley (15%), Jordan River (2%), Sooke (32%), JdF/Malahat (3%), and two media outlets.  We were reported in a large news item by Island Social Trends and by a freelance reporter for Black Press Media.

The OPSRRA “No to Biosolds” petition is still on the go. As of the Meeting September 29th we have garnered a total of 146 signatures so far.  That’s 146 people who know more about Biosolids now than before they signed up.  The petition is a moral statement by our residents; it will not have any great effect on the decisions made by the CRD as the JdF does not have say in this Biosolids plan.  Still, it shows a willingness for residents to understand the meaning of Biosolids being spread on our rural electoral area.   Well done everyone.  The petition will be forwarded to our Regional Director for his information and for use when talking with the CRD Board. The petition is still on the go on our Facebook page or contact Chris Moss at INFO@opsrra.ca with your questions.

OPSRRA is hoping to host a semi-annual meeting this November at the Shirley Community Hall.  We will update you on the actions we have taken since the April 28th Annual General Meeting, have a guest speaker, and some food to share, provided by your OPSRRA Board. We will let everyone know as soon as we can confirm the date and speaker in November.

MOTI still has Otter Point Road on its list of line painting for this Fall.  They will paint the centre line this year, unless the weather turns wet, in which case we will be first in “line” in the Spring. Drive safe and keep dry out there
