OPSRRA held a meeting August 10th, 2024 with Elections BC.
Mr. Philip Cameron, the District Electoral Officer for Juan de Fuca -Malahat was on hand to tell us about our new Electoral District and changes to the voting process this coming October. We thank him for his detailed presentation. For those unable to attend or who want to review some of his points again, his slides and his notes on each slide are included below.
Following the presentation and questions from the crowd, we discussed amongst the group the issues which we thought should be foremost in each MLA Candidate’s mind as they seek election in our new electoral district. “Water, water, water” was the comment of one participant and certainly water security is an issue. Other issues mentioned included: the need for new recreation and park lands in our enlarged area, Transportation issues in the North/South linkings of Victoria to the rest of the island. Food security and the need to carefully look at any development involving ALR designated land. Economic development including housing starts and density increases were discussed as well but followed the desire to protect our water and watersheds.
OPSRRA hopes you will enjoy these Elections BC slides and that you will keep us on your calendar for our Candidates Meeting coming up September 29th.
